How do records open?
Records open in a side peek, a center peek or a full page. Plya remembers side or center for each kind of record.
- peek
- records
- side peek
- center peek
- full page
Click a project, task, contact or any other record and it opens in a peek, over the page you're on, so you never lose your place.
The three ways a record opens
| Mode | What it looks like | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Side peek | A panel on the right, with the page still usable beside it | Records you work in quickly, like tasks |
| Center peek | A large panel in the middle, with the page dimmed behind it | Records you look through, with their tabs |
| Full page | The record's own page, with its own address | Long sessions in one project, contact, organization, note or invoice |
On a phone, both peeks fill the screen.
Defaults
Tasks open in side peek. Everything else opens in center peek. Full page is available for projects, contacts, organizations, notes and invoices.
Change how a record opens
- In the record's header, click Open in: … and pick Side peek or Center peek. Plya remembers it for that kind of record, for you.
- Pick Full page there, or press ⌘ ↵, to open the record as a full page. This doesn't change how other records open.
- Switching between a full page and a peek moves the record in place: the page shrinks into center peek or slides to the right into side peek, and grows back out the same way.
- To open every record of a kind as a full page, choose Full page for it in Settings → Preferences → How records open. You can set side and center peek there too.
- Press Escape to close a peek.
Go back from a full page
Click the back button at the top left of a full page. It takes you back to where you were, such as the list or the canvas you opened the record from, and shows its name: Network, Projects. If you came from outside Plya, such as a link in an email or a new tab, it takes you to the record's list.
What's in the header menu
The Open in menu lists the modes, then Add to favorites (or Remove from favorites), which keeps the record in your sidebar, then Ask Ash, which opens Ash with this record as context and suggestions like "Catch me up on this".
Tabs
Projects, contacts and organizations have tabs: Canvas, Tasks, Notes, and more. The Workspace list at the bottom of the details switches between them. In center peek and full page, the open tab shows beside the details, with its name at the top. In side peek, each tab opens the record as a full page on that tab.
The record's name, description and cover stay at the top of the details, and Workspace and Settings stay at the bottom. The properties in between scroll.
Pick the tab a record opens on
Records open on Canvas until you pick another tab. Hover a tab in the Workspace list and click the pin beside it. Every record of that kind then opens there for you, so you can make projects open on Tasks and leave contacts on Canvas. The pin stays beside your pick.
A link to a particular tab still opens that tab, and ⌘ ↵ keeps the tab you're on when you go to the full page.
On a phone, a record's page shows its details, and the Workspace links open each tab full screen. Tasks and Notes open in their own pages, showing that record's tasks or notes. Invoices, Time and Outreach open under the record, with its name at the top to take you back.
