How do I move around the canvas?
Pan, zoom, select, arrange, draw and undo on the canvas.
- canvas
- pan
- zoom
- select
- shortcuts
The canvas works like a design tool: two fingers to pan, pinch to zoom, and the usual keys for everything else.
Pan and zoom
| To | Do this |
|---|---|
| Pan | Two-finger scroll on a trackpad, or hold Space and drag |
| Zoom toward the cursor | Pinch, or hold ⌘ (Ctrl) and scroll |
| Zoom in or out | ⌘ = and ⌘ − |
| See everything | ⇧ 1 (zoom to fit) |
| Back to 100% | ⇧ 0 |
| Zoom to what's selected | ⇧ 2 |
The zoom level shows at the bottom left. Click it for the same zoom options.
Select and arrange
- Click to select. Hold ⇧ and click to add to the selection, or drag a box around several things.
- Arrow keys nudge; hold ⇧ to move further.
- ⌘ D duplicates. ⌫ deletes.
- With several things selected, the Arrange menu aligns them, distributes them, or stacks them in a row or a column.
- ⌘ G groups and ⇧ ⌘ G ungroups. ⇧ L locks or unlocks.
- ] brings to front and [ sends to back.
Snap and guides
Things you move or resize line up with the edges and centers around them, and guides show where. Hold ⌘ (Ctrl) while you drag to do the opposite for that move. Turn snapping off in the canvas settings gear or in Settings → Canvas.
Draw and write
| Tool | Key | Options |
|---|---|---|
| Select | V | |
| Hand | H | |
| Text | T | Heading 1–3 or Body, bold, italic, underline, link, bullets, checklist, color, size, and the Hand, Sans, Serif or Mono font |
| Sticky | N | Sticky color |
| Shape | S | Rectangle, Ellipse, Line, Arrow, and Shape color |
| Pen | P | Marker or Highlighter; Thin, Medium or Thick; Ink color |
| Eraser | E |
Double-click empty space to start typing. A text box you leave empty removes itself when you click away.
Undo
⌘ Z undoes and ⇧ ⌘ Z redoes. Saving never clears your undo history.
Export
Right-click a selection and choose Copy as image, or Export → PNG or SVG.
