How do I write and format a note?
Start a note, format it with the toolbar or typing shortcuts, and add images.
- notes
- formatting
- markdown
- images
Start a note
- Go to Notes and click New note.
- Type a title, then press Enter to move into the body.
- Write. The note saves as you type.
A new note started while a folder or record filter is on goes into that folder, or is linked to that record.
Basic includes 10 notes. At the limit, New note opens the plan dialog. Archiving a note you're done with makes room. A studio over the limit, for example after a Studio plan ends, can still open every note, and writing and editing wait until it archives down or upgrades. See how to archive or restore a note.

Tables
Click Table in the toolbar and choose its size from the grid: move across it, and the label reads columns × rows. Click to add it, or use the arrow keys and press Enter. The first row is a header.
- Press Tab to move to the next cell and Shift-Tab to move back. Tab in the last cell adds a row.
- Point at a cell (on a phone, tap it) and a handle shows on the left of its row and on top of its column. Click a handle to select that row or column and open its menu: add one before or after, duplicate it, clear it, turn the first row or column into a header, or delete it.
- Point at a table and a bar with + shows along its bottom and right edges. Click the bottom bar to add a row, or the right one to add a column. Drag a bar to add several, or drag it back to remove empty rows or columns. Rows and columns with something in them stay.
- Drag across cells to select them. A yellow edge goes around the whole selection. Delete or Backspace empties the selected cells. With a whole row or column selected, it removes the row or column.
- With the cursor in a table, Table in the toolbar adds or deletes rows and columns, turns the header row on or off, or deletes the whole table.
- Tables keep their rows and columns in a Word, PDF or Markdown download. Copied as plain text, each row is one line with its cells apart by tabs, so it pastes into a spreadsheet.
- A wide table scrolls sideways on a phone.
Images
Add an image with the toolbar's Image button, by pasting, or by dragging it into the note.
- Formats: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP and AVIF, up to 10 MB each.
- Drag a corner to resize. The proportions stay the same.
Checklists in notes
Checklist items in a note are for the note only. They don't become tasks. To track a to-do, add it in Tasks.
