Notes troubleshooting

Fixes for common note problems, as symptom, cause and fix.

The note says "Not saved"

  • Cause: your changes couldn't reach Plya, usually because the connection dropped. Your text stays on screen.
  • Fix: click Try again. Plya also asks before you leave a page with unsaved text.

The plan dialog opened when I clicked New note

  • Cause: your studio is on Basic and has 10 notes. Nothing you've written is locked.
  • Fix: upgrade to Studio in the dialog, or click Not now and archive or delete a note you don't need. Archived notes don't count. See how to archive or restore a note.

A prompt says "Over the Basic notes limit"

  • Cause: your studio is on Basic and has more active notes than Basic includes, for example after a Studio plan ended. You can still open, search and export every note. Writing and editing notes pause. Projects and contacts aren't affected.
  • Fix: click Archive down and archive or delete notes until the count reaches the limit. Or click Upgrade to Studio.

"Older Word files (.doc) can't be read"

  • Cause: Plya reads .docx files. The older .doc format can't be read.
  • Fix: save the file as .docx or .txt, then import it again.

"That file couldn't be read"

  • Cause: the file is damaged, protected, or a scanned PDF with no text in it.
  • Fix: open it and export a fresh copy, or copy the text into a new note.

An image didn't upload

  • Cause: images in notes are limited to 10 MB, in PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP or AVIF.
  • Fix: export a smaller JPEG or PNG and add it again.

I deleted a note by mistake

  • Cause: deleting a note is permanent. Plya asks you to confirm first.
  • Fix: a deleted note can't be restored. Download notes you want to keep a copy of.
  • Cause: links in notes don't open on a click, so you can edit them.
  • Fix: copy the address and paste it into your browser.

A table runs off the side of the screen

  • Cause: a table wider than the note scrolls inside the note, so the page doesn't.
  • Fix: swipe or scroll sideways on the table to see the rest.

Typing "/" or "@" does nothing

  • Notes have no slash menu. Use the toolbar, the typing shortcuts, or Link to… to link a note to a record.

A note I pinned isn't pinned for my studio-mate

  • Pins are per person. Each person pins their own notes.
