Choose Basic when you sign up, with no card needed. Every part of Plya is on. Basic has no limit on invoices, and four limits on the rest:

WhatBasicCounts
Projects3Active projects. Archived projects don't count, and deleting one frees its place
Notes10Active notes. Archived notes don't count, and deleting one frees its place
Contacts50People and leads. Organizations don't count. Archived contacts don't count
Ash credits20 a monthThey come back each month on the day your studio was created

Restoring an archived project, note or contact takes a place, the same as making a new one.

Everything else has no limit on Basic: tasks, canvases and cards, files, time, organizations, outreach pipelines, opportunities and exports.

Invoices and the Plya fee

Basic has no limit on invoices. When a client pays one online through Plya, by card or bank transfer, Plya keeps 2% of the payment, on top of Stripe's processing fee. On a $5,000 invoice, that's $100.

  • The fee comes out of your payout. It's never added to what your client pays.
  • The plan your studio is on when the client pays sets the fee.
  • A payment you mark as paid by hand carries no Plya fee, since no money passes through Plya.
  • If you refund a payment, Plya keeps its fee.
  • Studio has no Plya fee. You pay Stripe's processing fee and nothing else.

Studio costs less than Basic once clients pay you more than $1,950 a month through Plya. When you send an invoice on Basic, the Send dialog shows the fee on that invoice. See what a client payment looks like.

Studio has no limits and no Plya fee, and gives Ash 500 credits a month, for $39 a month or $99 a quarter.

See where you are

  • The Basic card at the foot of the sidebar shows the limit you're closest to, such as "2 of 3 projects", with an Upgrade button. It turns yellow when one place is left. Under the count, the owner sees the offer waiting on Studio: the launch deal, "$28 a month for two months" if you signed up from a partner's link, or "Studio free for 30 days" if you signed up from a link with a free trial.
  • Settings → Billing shows all three counts under Basic plan, with Ash's credits as the last line.

When you reach a limit

Nothing you've made is locked. Every project, note and contact stays editable, and you can open and export everything.

Only the next one asks. When you're at a limit:

You clickWhat happens
New projectThe plan dialog opens. Your projects and their canvases stay as they are
New noteThe plan dialog opens. Your notes stay as they are
New contact or a new leadThe plan dialog opens. Your contacts and their outreach keep working
Import with a file bigger than the places leftThe preview says how many you have left, with Import the first N or Upgrade and import all
Ask Ash, with this month's credits usedAsh says when the credits come back, with an Upgrade button

The plan dialog says which limit you reached. Upgrade to Studio takes the limits off at once, and what you were doing carries on. Not now closes it with everything as it was.

If you aren't the studio's owner, Plya asks you to ask the owner to upgrade.

The day after a studio first reaches a limit, Plya emails its owner once, with a link to upgrade. To stop it, use the link at the bottom of the email or your mail app's Unsubscribe button, or turn off Basic plan limit in Settings → Notifications.

When a Studio plan ends

If you cancel Studio, or a plan stops after a missed payment, the studio goes back to Basic. Everything stays.

  • Under every limit: nothing changes. You carry on as before.
  • Over a limit: a studio can hold more projects, notes or contacts than Basic includes. That area still lists, opens, searches and exports everything. Creating and editing in it pause, and a prompt shows how many you have, what Basic includes and two ways forward: Archive down and Upgrade to Studio.
  • Archive down opens the area's list with selection on. Archive or delete until the count reaches the limit, and creating and editing work again at once. Archiving and deleting always work.
  • Upgrade to Studio takes every limit off.

Other areas are untouched. A studio with 7 projects can still write notes, as long as its notes are under the limit.
