What does my client see when they pay?
The pay page, the payment methods, Plya's fee on Basic, and the receipts that go out when an invoice is paid.

Your client never needs a Plya account. The invoice email's View & pay invoice button opens the pay page, a private link only people with the link can see.
The pay page
- At the top: the invoice number and your studio's name, with Download PDF. The PDF is laid out on US Letter paper, in light colors whatever the screen's theme, and a line item never splits across two pages.
- The invoice itself: your logo, address, email, phone, website and tax ID; Bill to; the dates, terms and payment note; the line items and Total due; your notes; and any attachments.
- Beside it: Amount due, the payment form, and Pay now.
- Under the invoice, on the page and the PDF: "Powered by Plya". The emails your client gets say "Sent with Plya".
How clients can pay
Card is always available. Other methods, such as bank debit, appear if you've turned them on in your Stripe Dashboard. The money goes to your Stripe account and pays out on your Stripe schedule.
The fee on a payment
Stripe's processing fee comes out of every online payment. On Basic, Plya also keeps 2% of each invoice payment made online, by card or bank transfer. Studio has no Plya fee.
- The fee comes out of your payout, and your client never sees it. The amount they pay is the invoice total.
- The plan your studio is on when your client pays sets the fee. An invoice sent on Studio and paid after the studio is back on Basic carries the fee, and the other way round. A studio that Plya comped has none.
- A payment you mark as paid by hand carries no Plya fee, since no money passes through Plya.
- If you refund a payment in your Stripe Dashboard, Plya keeps its fee. It isn't returned.
- On a $5,000 invoice, the fee on Basic is $100. Studio costs less than Basic once clients pay you more than $1,950 a month through Plya.
Once an online invoice is paid, its detail shows what the payment came to: the amount paid, Stripe's fee, Plya's fee when there was one, and what you receive. On Basic, a line under it says what the Plya fee would be on Studio, with View plans. The breakdown shows on Studio too, without the Plya line.
After they pay
| Who | What they get |
|---|---|
| Your client | Pay now turns green and reads Paid, the invoice's status changes to Paid, and a message says "Payment received. Thank you." A receipt email follows, "Payment received: invoice" with the number. If they reply, it goes to your studio's billing email, or the owner's email when there isn't one |
| You | A notification in your Inbox and, unless you've turned it off, an email: "Your client paid" the invoice, with Open the invoice. Everyone else in your studio gets one too |
| The invoice | Turns Paid, with the date and the method, such as "Visa •••• 4242". Its Activity says when Stripe pays it out and links to the payment in Stripe |
If a bank payment is still processing, the page and the invoice's status say Processing, and the invoice turns Paid when it clears. If a payment fails, the page says "That payment didn't go through. Try again below." Both send you a notification. See How do notifications work?.
What clients see in other states
| State | The pay page shows |
|---|---|
| Paid | "Paid in full" and the method |
| Void | "This invoice is void", with your studio's name to contact |
| Draft | Nothing: drafts can't be opened from a link |
| Your Stripe isn't active | "Online payment isn't set up for this invoice." with your studio's name |
