How does a project's current phase work?
One phase is current. It sets the project's status, and the status picker sets either.

- phases
- status
- timeline
A project's phases sit inside its statuses, such as Brief and Design in Planning and Fabrication and Install in In progress. A phase can sit under On hold, Complete or Cut too. One phase is current. A project without phases works as it always has.
Where the current phase shows
The project's status names the phase and its place in the plan, in one control, such as In progress · Fabrication 3/5. It shows on the project's card, in the list, in the project itself and when you hover the project's bar on the Projects timeline. The phase's name turns red once it runs past its end date. Click the control to open the status picker.
On the project's Timeline tab, the current phase is marked Current, on a computer and on a phone.
Change the current phase
- From the status picker. Each status lists its phases under it. Pick a phase to make it current.
- From the Timeline tab. Open a phase's ··· menu and choose Make current.
Making a phase current moves the project to the status the phase sits in. Moving from Design to Fabrication moves the project from Planning to In progress.
Change the status by hand
- Planning or In progress makes that status's first phase current. If the status has no phases, the project has no current phase.
- Any other status with phases in it works the same way: picking it makes its first phase current.
- On hold with no phases keeps the current phase, so setting the project back to its status returns to it.
- Complete and Cut with no phases keep the current phase as a record of where the project stopped.
If the current phase already sits in the status you pick, it stays current.
Dragging a card to another status on the Projects page follows the same rules. A phase is done once the project has moved past it, and the status picker marks those phases with a check.
Move or delete the current phase
- Moving the current phase to another status moves the project with it, unless the project is On hold, Complete or Cut.
- Deleting the current phase leaves the project with no current phase. Its status stays the same.
Ash can change the current phase too. Ask it to move a project to a phase by name.
